Why counselling is important for depression?

counselling is important for depression

Recently, after the news of the suicide of young Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the debate has started once again as to what are the reasons that even the most successful people are forced to commit suicide.

According to the World Health Organization, about 1 million people commit suicide each year, or one person every 40 seconds, and the number of suicides has increased by 60% in the last 45 years.

The WHO says suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15- to 29-year-olds. Most experts believe that the main cause of suicide is depression.

Psychologist Dr. Shanza Rafique has been providing online counselling to people suffering from depression and mental illness for 4 years.

Dr. Shanza Rafique says that there can be no single cause of depression in any person. "Financial problems, educational difficulties, family turmoil, or other causes can cause any man or woman to become depressed and go on to commit suicide."

The cause of depression?

Dr. Shanza Rafique says that one of the reasons for suffering from depression may be the relationship between the parents, ie if the parents of a child fight with each other or they will be harsh and reprimanding their children. Children (can lead to psychological problems).

According to Dr. Shanza, depression does not belong to any particular gender and as many girls come to him for online counselling, as many boys come to him for treatment of mental problems.

Shanza Rafique says that there are many types of psychological problems, it can happen to a person of any age, if a person suffers from depression he will feel very lonely and restless or anxious. I may have seizures.

"If you notice a difference in a child's behavior since childhood, don't make fun of it or avoid saying that it will get better as you get older, but if you see such changes in children," he said. Talk to people who are different from a normal person (for example, he doesn't befriend anyone, gets angry or doesn't talk, etc.) and takes them into confidence.

Can depression be treated with medication?

Dr. Shanza Rafique says that medicines for depression and psychiatric disorders are given only on the basis of symptoms which can temporarily calm a person, even if a person suffering from depression has a temporary benefit from the medicine. Later in life, if an accident happens again, he may suffer from depression again.

"Depression can only be controlled through counselling. A person suffering from depression and mental illness should seek the help of a psychologist for counselling regardless of social constraints and what people say, and this is the way to go," he said. Through it, he can fight it.

What needs to change?

We need to change our attitudes first because depression is not something to hide but it is a kind of disease like any other disease and there is a cure for it.

At the same time, society needs to change within itself so that the person in front of you does not hesitate to tell you about his pain or suffering.

If we all start to change our attitudes, we will be able to significantly reduce mental illness.
